Detroit Lions Rumored to Bring on New Quarterback
The Detroit Lions currently have Jared Goff as their starter going into the new season. It will mark his second season with the team, so he’ll be more comfortable with the team and coaching staff, which will hopefully translate to more wins.
That said, there are rumors that the Lions could bring on another high-profile quarterback who is on his way out. Most Lions critics and fans thought the team would wait until at least the next season to consider bringing in other quarterbacks, but stranger things have happened, so the speculation makes sense.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, 30, seems to be heading out of San Francisco. If you go by the oddsmakers, the Detroit Lions right now have the second-best odds to bring on the quarterback. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that Garoppolo is expected to be traded by the end of July. ESPN adds that the Seattle Seahawks have had internal discussions about trading for the quarterback, too. “A few executives I’ve spoke to believe the 49ers are a bit stuck here,” Jeremy Fowler states in the article. “Because they need Garoppolo to pass a physical coming off the shoulder surgery, they need to renegotiate his contract with that new team on that $24 million salary. And, the pool of suitors right now seems to be pretty small.”
So, what’s the real possibility of the Lions trading for Garoppolo? It all comes down to what he could bring to the Lions and how much it will cost the team for the trade. We’ll have to wait it out and see. Either way, I’m pumped for the upcoming Lions season. Yes, I’m one of those overly optimistic Lions fans, and my heart might get dashed again, but hey, I can’t be any other way.
