The Oregon Exploding Whale Returns
Over the past few years we have shared this story a couple of times, but now a Minor League baseball team has brought life to it once again!
Who remembers the Oregon exploding whale from the 1970s? If you don’t, here is a quick reminder.

The small town decided to pay tribute to the whale this week by dedicating a park in it’s name. Welcome to the “Exploding Whale” park.
Residents voted to dedicate a park after the 1970 blast, choosing “Exploding Whale Memorial Park” as the name for the recreational area in the city, which is about 130 miles southwest of Portland.
More than half of the final tally — 439 out of 856 responses — voted for “Exploding Whale Memorial Park,”
Since we first talked about the exploding whale, we haven’t seen much more on it, until now!
Thankfully for us, we have a Minor League baseball team called the Portland Pickles!
It has been 52 years since they exploded the washed up whale and the Pickles celebrated in a very fun way. By blowing up their own whale!

MORE ON THE EXPLOSION:
Since the explosion in 1970, authorities have come up with better way of discarding a washed up whale, but Thankfully for us we can always take a look back at the video from an Oregon beach.
It made us start thinking about our own Minor League teams here and what “Detroit” event they could highlight.
The USPBL is right here in Utica. They have theme nights all the time, so doing something on a major Detroit event would be awesome!
What would that event be? Maybe something to do with coneys or maybe the big tire on 94? What ever it is, we know the fan and community would have one heck of a night celebrating!
Just on the topic of whales, here is one of our favorite whale videos from the past!
