Michigan is a beautiful place to travel. I truly love driving through our small towns during the summer months, taking in the sights while road tripping. But, how does Michigan rate when it comes to being a good state for car repairs and road trips?

WalletHub.com recently conducted a study to determine the best states for road tripping, factoring in car repairs. "Summer is the perfect time to hit the open road: School’s out, the weather’s warm, and the possibilities are endless," they state in the study. "While many people avoided travel in the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, states have released most restrictions now thanks to the distributions of vaccines. As a result, this summer, nearly 80% of American adults plan to take some sort of road trip."

The outlet adds, "Deciding to take a trip is the easy part, though. Picking a destination and affording everything you want to pack into your itinerary is harder. Gas prices might be one thing to worry about, for example. They’ve been growing this year, with the national average at over $4 per gallon now. On top of that, you’ll need to consider accommodations, activities and dining. All of these certainly contribute to the more than $751 billion we spend on leisure travel each year."

So, where does Michigan fall on the tally of the best, and worst, states for road tripping? Michigan is No. 16, so fairly high on the list. The Mitten has a total score of 50.24. Moreover, Michigan is one of the best states when it comes to the cost of car repairs, believe it or not, as the state is No. 4 in the country for a decently priced repair! The No. 1 state for road tripping was New York, followed by Minnesota, Texas, Louisiana and Maine to round out the top five. Read the full list of the best states for road tripping here.
