Michigan Snowstorm – When Will It End?
It’s beginning to look a lot like a Michigan winter. It’s still technically fall, right? What’s extra crazy, of course, is that about a week ago, much of lower Michigan was in the mid-70s. Now, most of the state is buried under lots of snow. What happened?
Michigan is what happened. We should be used to this by now. According to the National Weather Service, much of lower Michigan will be under a winter storm warning through Saturday morning (Nov. 19). We’re looking at a lengthy snow event with several hours of heavy snow happening, especially along southwest lower Michigan and northwest lower Michigan.
Even after Saturday morning, heavy snow is projected to continue through probably midday Sunday (Nov. 20). The National Weather Service warns that travel will be hazardous across southwest Lower Michigan all weekend long, so plan accordingly.
The heaviest snow is expected to bring up to two feet of the white stuff across areas of Leelanau County and from inland locations east of Charlevoix and Petoskey. A good portion of the western third of lower Michigan could see an upwards of eight inches of snow. Additional heavy snow will be in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and South Haven, much of it lake-effect. Some of these areas could get a foot of snow.
The good news, if you don’t like snow, is that much of this snowfall is projected to be isolate, according to the National Weather Service. So, you could see far less snow than someone living just a few miles away. Going into Monday, the snow is finally projected to stop, although the cold temperatures are here to stay. Temperatures will be in the teens as lows for much of lower Michigan on Sunday and Monday. Going into next week, temperatures will only get up to the 30s and 40s. Snow will again creep into our forecast by Friday.
