10 Uncommon Things That Should Become Normalized

This is one of those lists, if I saw it years ago I wouldn’t agree with, but now that I am older I actually liked it enough to share it….

Woah! I haven’t seen something like this since I put hot dogs in my dog’s food dish! Watermelon eating contest underway!

This is one of those lists, if I saw it years ago I wouldn't agree with, but now that I am older I actually liked it enough to share it.

A conversation online has sparked a bit of debate. What are some uncommon things that you do that you think should be the norm?

One for me is not eating anything after the expiration date, I cannot stand when someone does this and my wife looks at me like I am crazy if I don't.

People online are talking about "uncommon things that should become normalized."  Here are a few of the better suggestions:

1.  Eating out alone.  Some are self-conscious about it, but treat yourself.

2.  Adult slumber parties.  Staying over, or renting a house with your friends.

3.  Changing careers in midlife.  Burnout is real.

4.  Affection between men (or between different sexes) that's purely platonic.

5.  Good bosses that help you grow and learn.

6.  Genuine interactions between people that are not interrupted by phones.

7.  A four-day workweek.  If we keep pushing for it, maybe it'll happen.

8.  "Dressing to impress" for things like flying, dining out, and job interviews.

9.  Splitting the check on dates.

10.  Taking your own food to a party or an outing . . . especially for allergies and food intolerances.

Out of the list of ten, there are a few of these that stand out to me. One is eating out alone, I use to think this was such a weird concept, until I got older. Once I realized it is actually kind of nice to get breakfast alone I began to do it more and more.

Also having a relationship with the opposite sex that isn't sexual. I am very close with a couple of my wives friends and she is the same way with a few of mine. I think being comfortable in your relationship helps out a lot with this.

Hey It’s Ryan, let me start off by saying…YES, I was born and raised in Wixom, Michigan although a lot of listeners like to joke that I am from Arizona. WCSX has always been my radio home, I have been at the station since I was a 23-year-old intern, co-host of Big Jim’s House, married with kids. Family and radio are what I love, but don’t get me started on golf! Like some, I have become obsessed with golf and you can hear all about that on “The Ball Washer Pod” right here on WCSX. One of my other passions is helping out the Vets. Since coming to WCSX I have been apart of raising hundreds of thousands for local vet groups. Other than that, I am a goofy guy, loving life, my family and talking to you on the radio. Ryan writes about golf, family and what happens on “Big Jim’s House.”
