3 Michigan Restaurants Named American’s Best By Yelp
Yelp has released its annual list of the top 100 restaurants in the country, and Michigan has not one, not two but three restaurants that made the tally. This shouldn’t be surprising, as Michigan has a ton of fantastic locally-owned restaurants across the state.
According to Yelp, the list was put together by reaching out to Yelpers and asking them to share their favorite dining spots. Then, according to Yelp, it “ranked each by total number of submissions, ratings, reviews, and geographic representation, among other factors.”
The No. 1 restaurant in the entire U.S., according to the list, is Los Angeles spot called Broken Mouth. That restaurant, a Hawaiian-Korean cafe from chef-owner Tim Lee, scored five stars across more than 1,000 reviews for food such as Spam Musubi (“sushi” with canned meat and purple rice) and Meat Jun, a traditional fried beef dish.
The No. 1 spot in Michigan is Baobab Fare, Detroit, which came in at No. 28 on the list. Yelp says, “While shining a light on cuisine from the East African country of Burundi, this sunny downtown Detroit eatery has also been capturing the attention of the restaurant world: Last year, married founders and chefs Nadia Nijimbere and Hamissi Mamba were semifinalists for the James Beard Foundation’s award for Best Chef: Great Lakes.”
As for the other Michigan restaurants that made the cut, coming in at No. 38 is House of Falafel in Farmington Hills. Of the spot, Yelp says, “It takes a lot for a Detroit-area falafel restaurant to stand out, but House of Falafel in suburban Farmington Hills has done just that.” Finally, landing at No. 74. is Chadd’s Bistro in Rochester Hills. Yelp comments, “A mainstay on Yelp’s best-of lists, this local sandwich shop strives to make everything from scratch, right down to the ketchup, bistro sauce, and ranch dressing. Huge sandwiches, like the Highlander with roast beef, cheddar, Swiss cheese, grilled mushrooms, and horseradish sauce draw fans year after year, while the crispy, hand-cut French fries are credited with putting this spot on the map.” Find the full list here.
