Each year, GoBankingRates.com releases its list of the best cities to retire on a budget of $1,500 a month or less. Now, the list is back, and once again, a Michigan town has been ranked one of the best cities in the US to retire, or simply live, on a budget of $1,500 a month.

"Finding space in your budget to save and invest isn’t easy for everyone," GoBankingRates says. "In fact, a recent GoBankingRates survey found that 40% of Americans have less than $300 in savings. As such, plenty of Americans are facing a retirement where their only source of funds is a monthly check from the Social Security Administration. Still, living on a fixed income doesn’t mean you have to miss out on a satisfying retirement. In the right place, you might discover that you can stretch your budget further and spend your golden years enjoying yourself. To help you find such a place, a GOBankingRates study identified American cities where you can realistically retire on a budget of $1,500 a month."

For the study, GoBanking Rates took the cost-of-living index from Sperling’s Best Places and applied it to customer expenditure data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine the average cost of living in the given city. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in each city came from ApartmentList.

So, which Michigan city is one of the best for those living on a budget? Lansing, with total monthly expenditures of $1,485.48 and a livability score of 65. According to the study, the average monthly rent in Lansing is $701, and the average monthly cost of groceries is $308.45. Find the full study here.

The current job market is a hot topic, as opportunities are flourishing in a variety of industries. So, if you're looking for a new job, what are some of the best careers to get into to ensure financial success, especially if you live in Michigan?

The crew at Zippia.com has put together a list of the top highest paying jobs of 2022 in Michigan. Plenty of research went into the study to ensure the salary data was as accurate as possible. "To create our salary estimates, Zippia starts with data published in publicly available sources such as the most recently released data on March 29, 2021 from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Foreign Labor Certification Data Center (FLC), Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and others," they state in the study.

"The data science team then supplements that data by continuously scanning through millions of job postings each day to find published salaries," they added. "We match these published salaries to the companies, locations, and job titles in other datasets. Finally, the data science team calculates a weighted average of these inputs to produce an estimated salary for the particular job title in Michigan."

All in all, the crew at Zippia looked at the salary data set for all 4,209 jobs in Michigan to find those that get paid the most. These jobs certainly make a lot of money, but they're not exactly the jobs I expected to see on the list. Read on for the full list, as well as the average salary for each job. For example, I thought a physician would be right at the top, and it's on the list but down a ways. Read on for the highest paying jobs in Michigan, and find more information on the study via Zippa here.
