For the third year in a row, one famed Michigan riverwalk has been named the best riverfront in America by USA Today. This proves, once again, that Michigan is a beautiful state.

In the just-released best-of list, USA Today writes, "Cities across the United States have transformed their riverfront areas into multi-use spaces for recreational purposes, cultural activities, dining and nightlife. And residents and visitors alike could easily spend an entire day hanging out at these riverwalks, which offer so many things to see and do. To find the best of these waterfront spots, a panel of experts provided nominations, then readers voted for their favorites."

Coming in at No. 1, for the third year in a row, is the Detroit International RiverWalk. Of the riverwalk, USA Today states, "The riverfront redevelopment in Detroit, a city with 14 miles of shoreline along the Detroit River, is one of the city's most exciting initiatives. The east riverfront of the Detroit International RiverWalk stretches from Joe Louis Arena to Gabriel Richard Park and includes several parks, restaurants, splash parks and natural areas."

"We are thrilled to be named America’s Best Riverwalk once again," Matt Cullen, chairman of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, said in a statement. "The transformation of our riverfront over these past two decades has been tremendous. To go from a blighted and underused riverfront to one that is recognized as the best in the country three years in a row is a testament to how much people love the riverfront and to what our community can achieve when we all work together." If you love beaches, then Michigan is the perfect state for you. Not only do we have the Great Lakes, but Michigan also has countless inland lakes, all with pristine sandy beaches.

That's one great thing about Michigan. You don't have to travel too far to enjoy a great vacation, especially if you're a "beach bum." Lots of people from across the U.S. come to Michigan to vacation in the spring and summer, including some of my friends in Florida. With that being the case, why not take enjoy the beautiful beaches we have in Michigan and plan your spring getaway or summer vacation right here in the Mitten?

Read on for a list I’ve put together of 25 (okay, it's 26) of Michigan’s best beaches. There were far too many to include, so I picked 25, but if you have a spot that you believe should be on the list, reach out to me on social media and let me know. One of my favorite spots on this list is Saugatuck, because my uncle lives very close to there off Lake Michigan. Not only does Saugatuck have incredible beaches for as far as the eye can see, but they also have a fun tourist town with little shops that are open during the warm months. A few other very popular spots are Grand Haven and South Haven. Both are on the west side of the state and offer ample public beach space.

By the way, here's some Lake Michigan trivia for you. Lake Michigan is the third largest Great Lake by surface area. It's also the sixth largest freshwater lake in the world. The lake has a surface area of 22,404 square miles, and its average depth is 279 feet. The lake's greatest depth is 923 feet. That sounds deep, but the average depth of the ocean is 12,100 feet.
