PATRICK DOVE/TCPALM - USA TODAY NETWORKWe have all been wondering what the MLB will do to save American's Past time and make it more attractive to younger generations. The Dominican Republic has figured it out!
Guys from Barstool sports decided to go on a mission and see what other countries still love the game of baseball. They made a stop in the Dominican Republic for a few games, the answers were clear.
Check out how wild and fun looking a game in the Dominican professional league looks.
As you will see in the video, there are fast food vendors there (same price as the store) also they will sell you a six pack of beer and bottles of booze. Now the booze comes straight High School style, in a water bottle!
I think this could really make the MLB more fun for younger fans. As we have seen, if something is a party, people will come!
Here are some of the ways the MLB is trying to speed up the game. In the minors last year, the games were cut by a half hour.
- Extra-innings rule: In an effort to shorten games and prevent marathon contests, extra-innings games will now start with a runner on second base.
- Three-batter minimum: Pitchers must face at least three batters or finish the half-inning before being replaced, except in the case of injury.
- No more designated hitter in National League parks: The designated hitter (DH) rule, which allowed a hitter to bat in place of the pitcher, had been in place in the American League for many years. In 2020, the DH was also used in National League games due to the pandemic, but it was not continued for the 2021 season.
- Limits on pickoff attempts: Pitchers are now limited in the number of pickoff attempts they can make in a single plate appearance. The specific rules vary depending on the level of play (major leagues vs. minor leagues).
- Expanded playoffs: In 2020, MLB expanded the playoffs to include 16 teams, up from the usual 10. This format was not continued for the 2021 season, but it is possible that it could be revisited in the future.
- Larger bases, the made the bases 3 inches bigger
- A pitch clock, there is now a pitch clock for the batter and pitchers
