Baseball season is officially here in Michigan and across the US. You can expect to get pummeled with baseball from now until the fall. I mean, there are so many games, right? As a football fan, I'm jelly of all the games baseball fans get. But, I understand that baseball is such a different sport than football, and there's no way a contact sport like football could pack in that many games.
So, if you're heading to a Tigers game at Comerica Park in Detroit, note that there's one seat you should not get. The crew at Bookies.com has put together a list of the worst seats at every baseball park across the US. "For the second year in a row, Bookies.com analyzed the seating arrangements of all 30 MLB venues and determined the worst seat in each ballpark using an algorithm that took into account various metrics ahead of the 2023 season," they explain. When doing the ranking, the best possible score is 60 out of 60, meaning a great seat. The lowest possible score is 0 out of 60, meaning a terrible seat.
As for ties, they were "broken by price, with the lower-priced seat given credit on our scale. As you can see in our table, the Red Sox seat is the worst in baseball, followed by the Cubs seat in Section 428, and so on."
So, what's the absolutely worst seat at Comerica Park in Detroit? Section 345, row 20 and seat 9. It got a score of 24. It's only a $16 seat, though, so not much harm done. The lowest score went to a seat at Fenway Park, with a score of just 17. That seat is actually more expensive than the Tigers one at $19. There's a lot of interest from American workers to find jobs to work remotely, and now, some companies are exclusively going that route. The number of jobs that in the job description and post say workers can be remote has almost tripled from pre-pandemic, going from about 4% of in 2019 to about 12% of jobs in 2022, according to ZipRecruiter.
"The pandemic-induced 50-year acceleration in the shift to remote work has now firmly taken root as a win-win-win for workers, businesses, and the economy," ZipRecruiter.com says. "For workers, it offers the chance to access distant opportunities, save time and money, lower the risk of contracting Covid, escape gas price inflation, work from anywhere, and spend more time with family. For businesses, it provides access to a wider and more diverse talent pool, reduces real estate and overhead costs, and increases labor productivity while reducing absenteeism. And on a national scale, it may help us avoid a wage-price spiral."
When it comes to the type of companies looking to hire remote workers, according to ZipRecruiter.com, it's high on tech jobs. "The share of job postings offering remote work was slowly growing before the pandemic, thanks to the rise of technologies such as cloud computing and video conferencing, but the trend accelerated at the start of the pandemic, and has continued to build. While about 12% of job postings overall now explicitly state that employees may work remotely, there is considerable variation across industries, with less than 1 in 50 job postings offering remote work in transportation and storage (unsurprisingly), but more than 1 in 4 job postings offering it in the technology sector."
