We Fixed This Toilet
Nadine Hutton / StringerWhen it comes to ad agencies there are some that you remember and some just disappear. The best commercials don't sell a product it tells a story in 3o or 60 seconds. You have a short time period to grab the attention with good visuals and sometimes even a catchy jingle.
Some commercial ad campaigns over the years that deserve recognition come to mind, Anheuser Bush Bud Light, "Real Man of Genius," ad campaign. The Oscar Mayer Wiener, "My Bologna commercial," and my favorite the Snickers, " Betty White Super Bowl Ad.
A new company coming to town is called, http://www.frontdoor.com . It is a new app starting up this month in April... And it's a "One-Stop-App For Home Repair And Maintenance Needs. Video Chat With An Expert. Real-time Advice. Free How-To Tips Library".
So far, the ad campaign has been outrageously funny! This new ad just started and caught my eye and ear. Make sure you listen closely to the jingle in the commercial and you will recognize the hit song from Starship; "We Built This City". A little front-door-known fact about one of the writers of that number-one song from 1985 is that one writer was Elton John's side writer, Bernie Taupin.
Now comes the fun part... how do you take a smash hit song and incorporate it into a tv commercial? Simply change the words, make it a parody, and have fun with it! I was blown away by the use of the song and thought, "This is an awesome television commercial". I rcognized it right away and I find it so crazy that it easily sticks in your brain.
And that is the whole key to making a great TV Spot. Judge for yourself by checking out the video below.

6 of The Worst Rock Band Videos Ever Shown on MTV
MTV didn't get to my neighborhood for a while. Inspired by MTV telling everyone to call their local cable company and say, "I want my MTV," like magic, it worked! Weekends, for a small time, were spent in a game room basement watching for hours. I had great admiration for the VJs that would become household names. The VJs that would give us the best and the worst rock band videos.
MTV's five original VJs in 1981 were Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter, J. J. Jackson, and Martha Quinn. MTV even had its hard-hitting news crew headed by Kurt Loader who had previously been a Rolling Stones Magazine editor.
From 1981 - 1995 MTV's focus was on music videos. If you had a band and a good video, you could be an overnight success. Bon Jovi, U2, Nirvana, the Police, Pat Benatar, ZZ Top, Whitesnake, and Cyndi Lauper all owe MTV a big thank you for a boost in their popularity.
Not all MTV videos were good. Face it, there was some pure garbage videos that made it to the airwaves.

David Bowie and Mick Jagger - Dancing in the Streets
David Hasselhoff "Hooked On A Feeling"
If you ever wondered why MTV stopped showing videos 24 hours a day. This might be a big clue why.
Dog Police -Dog Police
Loss for words? Believe me you are not the only one for this video. Still can't even imagine the drugs going around in the 80's. A new wave band from Memphis, Tennessee that briefly gained success for the music video.
Journey - Separate Ways
Example of great song really bad video. Steve Perry summed it up by saying, 'We're performers, we're entertainers, but we're not actors."
PowerSolo - Boom Babba Do Ba Dabba
PowerSolo is a Danish rock & country rock band, founded in 1996, and was one strange video that popped up on MTV.
Blur - Country House
Everything just seem to get worse in the 90s when it came to music videos. Just seem like the money dried up or they just didn't care anymore. The band has a lot of other cool videos. Just don't know what they were thinking on this one.
