Lots of big trades have happened lately in the NFL. One big one is the Detroit Lions trading running back D’Andre Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Well, it appears the Eagles were not their first choice. They wanted to trade him to a different NFC team.

According to Jake Ellenbogen, the Lions initially wanted to trade Swift to the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams turned down the chance, so Detroit hit up Philly.

According to Ellenbogen, the Detroit Lions called the Rams during the draft to talk about trading Swift. “The Rams declined and Detroit ended up moving him to the #Eagles,” Ellenbogen said of the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams NFL trade talks said via a tweet.

Of course, the Lions are set for the running back position without Swift. They drafted running back Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round, and they also signed the Bears’ David Montgomery for the position. For Swift, this is a good deal. He’s back in his hometown. He’s also with a team that made it to the Super Bowl last season. When asked about the trade during a press conference, Swift said, “It was a surprise. There really was no explanation. Everything went through my agent. A lot of different emotions going up and down.”
