Cedar Point debuted its newest roller coaster late last week, but something didn’t go quite as expected.
The park’s newest ride, The Wild Mouse, actually malfunctioned, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Riders got stranded on the ride, too.
According to the Journal, the mishap took place during a preview for the media and other special attendees. At least two cars stopped, and one of those was even close to the ride’s highest point. I would be so incredibly freaked out. Cedar Point park personnel even had to escort riders down safety staircases. Thankfully, they reported no injures.
The Wild Mouse boasts a speed of up to 35 mph and reaches 52 feet in the air. The park officially opens Saturday, and the ride is expected to be open. Watch video of the ride here.
I always like going to Cedar Point, but I don’t like riding coasters, so I can totally see a scenario where I would go just to be with a friend and then get stuck and freak out on the top of the ride. It sounds like the Park took care of everything very quickly, and again, no injuries were reported, so that’s all good news. There’s a lot of buzz around the new ride, so changes are people will still be lining up to try it out. Honestly, all of this reminds me of when I was a little girl and in Girl Scouts, and our annual trip was to Cedar Point. They need a chaperone to ride the coaster with the girls, and my dad was the only taker. So, my dad was stuck going on coaster after coaster with a bunch of Girl Scouts. Bless his soul.
