Summer travel season is here, which is great news. In Michigan, we have plenty of great spots to visit during teh summer months. Really, this state is beautiful no matter the time of year. But, summer is a prime time to travel in the Mitten.
However, as it turns out, one Michigan town as been named one of the absolute worst for travel costs and hassles in America. The study comes from Wallethub.com, which recently released its list of, “2023’s Best Summer Travel Destinations.” This is mainly based on the cost to visit, according to the study.
“WalletHub developed a ranking of the cheapest U.S. destinations that are also the easiest to reach,” they state in the study. “In total, we analyzed 100 of the largest metro areas across 41 key indicators. Our data set ranges from the cost of the cheapest flight to the number of attractions to the average price of a two-person meal. Compared with other rankings that focus on each destination’s scenic quality, this report focuses primarily on the cost and convenience of traveling to each location as well as its affordability.”
Before we get to the worst, Wallethub.com ranked Grand Rapids, Michigan, the No. 17 best travel destination in all of America. How cool is that?
Michigan Travel: Worst Ranking
Now, for the worst. According to the study, Lansing has the second “highest costs & most hassles” for travel in all of America. The city is just behind Kansas City, MO; McAllen, TX; and Baton Rouge, LA. I’m shocked. I’m from Lansing and didn’t realize this city had such high costs for travelers. Find the full study here.
