Detroit Vegan Restaurant Named Best In Michigan

Plant-based eating has become increasingly popular. In the Great Lakes State, a Detroit establishment was named the best vegan restaurant in Michigan. And vegan food isn't anything new to them: they have been in business since 1973.

Tasting Table recently published a report detailing the best place for a full vegan menu in each state. Many restaurants across the country offer vegan or vegetarian options. Today, there are more and more places that are dedicated to a plant-based menu only. In selecting their vegan choice in each state, Tasting Table searched through a wide scope. "Bear in mind that not every restaurant listed is entirely vegan; while the accessibility of veganism is improving, in some instances, the best choices were eateries with extensive vegan options," Tasting Table explains prior to providing their winners.

Although the report highlights the Detroit location, the best vegan restaurant in Michigan now has two locations in the state.

Located on E. Forest Ave, Seva has gotten so popular that they are now allowing call-ahead wait-list seating. The Detroit location is actually the newer of the two, opening in 2011. Seva in Ann Arbor is the original establishment, and has been cooking up meals since 1973.

Seva offers a full vegan experience. You can order online for pickup at either location. Furthermore, they have released a cookbook with many of their infamous dishes.

There are eight categories of food options at Seva. They were well-known for serving breakfast all day. Soup also gets its own menu section. They describe their style as "fresh and imaginative," and sandwich options like the Mushroom French Dip or Tempeh Reuben are great examples of that.

In addition, their vegan dessert menu offers two layer cakes plus a key lime pie.

"If there were doubts that vegan food is just as delicious as meat-based dishes, Seva Detroit is there to dispel those uncertainties," Tasting Table says about Seva. This Detroit restaurant being recognized as the best in Michigan shows they are certainly backing that up.

Wright & Company was listed as the best date night restaurant in Michigan. You may have stumbled upon this restaurant during a quick search for unique restaurants in Detroit or walked by it while strolling Woodward Avenue. It’s located at 1500 Woodward Avenue on the second floor of the historic Wright Kay building.

The complete list includes spaces with "relaxed and intimate" spaces. "When we think of the perfect date night, images of cozy corners, charming ambience, and easy conversation over plates of delicious food come to mind," said LoveFood.com. The website also mentioned that they're partial to spaces with crisp white tablecloths with leather-bound menus.

What makes Wright & Company a unique space is that it gives visitors a beautiful view of Downtown Detroit. According to the Wright & Company website, the building was built in 1891 and from 1920 to 1978, the structure was occupied by the Wright-Kay jewelry firm.

They have a James Beard nominated chef and partner Marc Djozlija. Executive Chef Kyle Schutte creates seasonal menus around a composed shared plates concept. Some of their featured menu items include, pork belly sliders, crispy brussels sprouts, potato pavé, udon carbonara, and burrata. This best Michigan date night restaurant also has a curated list of local and international beer and wine. As well as a variety of unique cocktails. From the coffee infused ‘Room Service’ cocktail, to the Western Grace Brandy ‘Lost Grace’ cocktail.

When you walk into Wright & Company, you'll step off the elevator and make your way to a host where they will greet you and seat you. It's best to make reservations because they tend to get busy. The space has warm lighting from beautiful chandeliers, exposed brick chandeliers, and curved leather booths. Their shared plates concept makes it easier for one to get closer and bond with their partner during a date night.
