2 Detroit Lions Players Make CBS Sports’ Top 100 Players Ranking
We’re just a few months away from the start of the NFL season, and the excitement is building. Now, CBS Sports has released its list of the top 100 players for 2023, and they only included two Detroit Lions players. Did the Lions get the shaft, or is this fair?
CBS Sports’ Top 100 Players:
Personally, I thought we should have four players on the tally. The players CBS did include were OT Penei Sewell at No. 66 and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown at No. 83. Of Sewell, writer Pete Prisco states, “He has developed into a top-tier right tackle, a brute who can dominate in the run game. He’s improving in pass protection as well.” Of St. Brown, he says, “He showed in 2022 that he was among the league’s best move-the-chain receivers with 64.2 percent of his catches going for first downs. He caught 106 passes with six touchdowns.” Those are great picks. But, what about DE Aiden Hutchinson? He was a stellar rookie last season and is shaping up to be one of the best DFs in the league this year. Thankfully, Hutchinson was at least given honorable mention on this list.
If you follow my Lions coverage, this is no surprise, but I would have included Jared Goff on this list. Goff had some of the best numbers in the NFL towards the end of last season, and there’s no reason he shouldn’t have made the top 100. Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes topped the list.
