This was a Grounds for Divorce I was a little nervous to do if I am being honest. I wasn't sure which way it would go, but like always you all called in with some very good points and advice!
So I thought of this question as my wife and I were sitting around watching a movie before we put our son to bed earlier this week. Here is the question.
"IS IT OKAY TO WATCH SCARY MOVIES OR MOVIES WITH VIOLENCE WHEN MY SON FINNIAN IS AROUND? HEIDI THINKS IT’S A BAD IDEA..I THINK HE IS STILL TO YOUNG TO REALIZE WHAT IT IS"
Alright, before I get into some of your comments, I would like to say. I know this can become a very heated topic amongst everyone. That's why I was nervous about asking it, but I thought it was something my wife and I really wanted some help answering.
Now, with that said, here is the conversation from On-Air today:
So as you could hear, most of the comments were back and forth. Some think it's a bad idea as it could teach him some bad things. Other's think it is fine and say it's up to us to make sure he knows that movies are not real.
LISTENER COMMENTS:
GJ. Here. Let's stop raising babies Finn may have glanced at the tv. You will know if he's paying attention if he states saying. YEAH.
I'd rather them watch scary movies and tell them it's not real then have them watch the news and tell them that's real. My kids have been watching scary movies their whole lives. Turned out just fine. *Karri
Kids are like sponges. I wouldn't watch violent or scary movies when Finn's around. Just my opinion
Ryan, Just because he's not talking yet, doesn't mean he's not processing what he sees and hears.
It's the same for animals, just because they don't speak, doesn't mean they're not affected by human actions.
Those were just a few of the comments from our text line this morning. Like I said, most comments were going back and forth.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
So, for my final thought on this. I think when it comes down to it, it is ultimately up to us on teaching our son what is real, fake, wrong or right. I don't think glancing at an "adult" movie from time to time is going to ruin him.
