The End Is Here For Butt Drugs
We’ve talked about reasons to visit Indiana in the past (fireworks, shrimp cocktail at St. Elmos in Indianapolis)…but unfortunately we’ve found a reason to make the journey is closed. Butt Drugs. No really, it’s a thing…and after 71 years it’s closed.
Take a minute and soak up this amazing (REAL) commercial for Butt Drugs.
(anyone notice the first guy in the commercial looks like Uncle Buck?)
According to a story in a local paper:
After 71 years, one of southern Indiana’s best known pharmacies is closing.
Butt Drugs in Corydon notified customers on Thursday that it plans to close on April 29, 2023.
“This was a decision that did not come lightly, considering Butt Drugs has been serving our beloved community for over 70 years,” wrote Katie Butt Beckort.
She is a third generation owner of the business that has been a target of more than a few one-liners from customers and the media.
Beckort’s grandparents started the pharmacy in 1952 on East Chestnut Street as “William H. Butt Drugs.” Her father continued it as “Butt Rexall Drugs.”
Maybe we could convince them to reopen here in Detroit – maybe by the “Golden Butthole”?
We joke about it – but (see what I did there) it’s the colorful places like Butt’s Drugs that add color to our lives. I love finding the local place (maybe that one you drive by) and it feels like we’ve lost a couple recently with great stories. Like Lyle’s Ham in Dearborn – one of the most straightforward restaurants you’ll find in the motor city (guess what they serve? Ham. Bean Soup. Vernors) It’s an original.
And in Pontiac the famous Rocket Burger is closing – part of the landscape for decades. Who didn’t love talking about their giant burger? Going to miss these places — and we’re always looking for new ones…now if I can just convince them to let us open a Butt Drugs by the Golden Butthole.
