Whether you're a seasoned outdoorsy type or just looking to unwind, camping has wide appeal, whether you're looking for adventure or just to relax. Where do you find the best camping spots? National and state parks are gems worth exploring, and there's one in Michigan that has been named on of the top ten camping destinations in America by The Dyrt, a camping information and booking app. To compile their list, they relied on a combination of data, including surveys from The Dyrt users and property managers, along with reviews and ratings from their camping community.

"If you ask ten people their favorite thing about camping, you might get ten different answers," says Sarah Smith, founder of The Dyrt. "Whether your favorite campsite is up in the mountains, beside the ocean, in the middle of the desert or close to a big city, they can all offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences and become your favorite memories. Our annual Best Places to Camp list recognizes campgrounds that are truly next level and resonate with a wide variety of people."

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

The camping app ranked Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore as the seventh-best camping spot in the nation on their list. Regardless of the season, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, America’s first National Lakeshore, stretches along the southern edge of Lake Superior in Michigan's scenic Upper Peninsula. With beaches, ten inland lakes, and an extensive network of approximately 100 miles of trails, there's something for everyone at Pictured Rocks.

Over the last three years, The Dyrt has been dropping their national Top 10 list of the Best Places to Camp, and the Alabama Hills Recreation Area made it to the list every single time. The Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Goblin Valley State Park, and Many Glacier Campground are back for an encore, securing their spots on the list for the second year running. These places also grabbed the top two spots in The Dyrt's Best Places to Camp Regional Awards announced back in May.
