Blindsided By The Blindside
Remember the movie the Blindside? Well, it isn’t everything we thought it was. Now, I have to think just like any “true” Hollywood movie, somethings are added on to or dramatized for entertainment purposes. That doesn’t seem to be the case with the Blindside, it seems the the entire heart of the movie was 100 percent fake.
The star of the movie and retired NFL player Michael Oher is finally coming out and telling the truth about the movie. Everyone fell in love with a story and film, that Michael says the family completely fabricated to gain wealth. The court documents are actually pretty shocking and gross if true. Michael alleges that the couple Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, never actually adopted him. The documents say that when Michael turned 18 in 2004, the family tricked him into signing a a document making them his conservators, which gave them legal authority to make business deals in his name.
The documents also mention that the Tuohys struck up a deal that paid them and their actual children millions of dollars in royalties from the movie. The movie made over 300 million dollars and won an Oscar. On the other hand, Michael claims that he never saw anything from the movie and said the couple continues to benefit from calling him their adopted son. In the paperwork, Michael said they use his name to further their charity and Leigh Anne uses it to help her career as a motivational speaker and author.
Michael just found out:
“The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher,” the legal filing says. “Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys.”
So far, the family has not commented on the allegations. The husband Sean did have a comment to a website saying that they are shocked by the allegations and that they never earned any money off of the film.
Michael also claims that he was tricked by them telling him it was basically an adoption. Although the family now had rights to his name. Michael is also asking the court to end the conservatorship.
Here is something interesting that was found in the court documents. It shows that Leigh Anne and Sean, plus their kids received, $225,000, plus 2.5% of the film’s “defined net proceeds. Another part of the documents show that the family was able to make money off of the film, while Michael signed a different contract in 2007 to “give away” to 20th Century Fox studios the life rights to his story “without any payment whatsoever.
We will have to keep a close eye on this as it makes it’s way through the courts. It doesn’t seem like this is anywhere near over as Michael seems to want to fight this until the end.
There is so much more to the story, here it is.
STORY UPDATE:
This has all just got very interesting for everyone paying attention. The Tuohy family has finally made an official statement on what is happening. It may shock you!
On top of the family saying they never “tricked” Michael into signing anything when it came to the movie. The family is now saying that before Michael filed this suit, he threated to put out a hit piece about the family if they didn’t pay him 15 million dollars.
The family lawyer said that the conservatorship “was established to assist with Mr. Oher’s needs, ranging from getting him health insurance and obtaining a driver’s license to helping with college admissions.” The attorney says that Oher can terminate the conservatorship anytime he wants and that the “Tuohys will never oppose it in any way.”
Again, this is going to get very interesting over the next couple of months as we see it play out.
PERSONAL TAKE:
Most people don’t ask for my opinion but I like to give it anyway. When it comes down to it, this family did something that not even Michaels own parents would do, take him in. They gave him a home and an outlet to create an amazing life for himself. Yes, if they took advantage of him as a teenager that is wrong. Do I think both sides have some major explaining to do? Yes, of course. I just really hope this isn’t and ugly as it seems to be getting. One thing I will say to the people online. Stop, just stop demanding that Sandra Bullock give back her oscar.
