Wait What? Weird News
Couple of weird news stories for Thursday (the second one is weirder…IMO)
#1 – A Japanese tourist visiting Singapore enjoyed a nice dinner with some friends at a seafood restaurant, but then left in a very crabby mood.
Junko Shinba says the waiter serving their table recommended the restaurant’s signature Alaskan king chili crab for $30, so they ordered it. What the group didn’t hear the waiter say is that the dish cost $30 per 100 grams. They ordered and ate 3,500 grams worth of crab, which came to a total of $938 in Singapore dollars, or about $700 U.S.
The stunned diner said, “We all became speechless knowing that one dinner for four adults cost that much . None of us were informed that the whole crab would be cooked only for us, as some other restaurants serve crabs partially. There were three plates full of crab left over.” The restaurant insisted that the cost of the dish was clearly communicated and they expected to table to pay. Shinba was outraged, so she called the police and filed a report. She then filed a complaint with the Singapore Tourism Board. The restaurant eventually offered the group a $107 discount “out of goodwill” and the bill was paid. (NY Post)
#2 – A Florida man was arrested for dousing a car with gasoline and then setting it ablaze, but that might be the least interesting part of the story.
Melvin Cintron was caught on a Ring security camera pouring gasoline all over a four-door Jaguar and setting it on fire. One report said the car belonged to Cintron’s ex-girlfriend. Another said it belonged to his cousin. It turns out both reports were correct. Police contacted the owner and showed her the Ring video. She identified Cintron and told officers that he is her cousin, and is also her ex-boyfriend. The victim, who is not named, told police she and her cousin had been dating and once lived together. After an argument, Cintron allegedly left her home and drove off in her car. He later told informed her that he set fire to her Jaguar. Cintron is under arrest and charged with second-degree arson and third-degree grand theft. (WOFL-TV)
