Which City Has Won The Most Professional Sports Championships?
Most recently, we’ve had parades in Denver and Las Vegas, with the Nuggets and Golden Knights winning the championships in their sports, respectively. Now, with Major League Baseball and the WNBA winding down and the NFL underway, we are soon to have three more champions. This begs the question, which cities have won the most championships in professional sports?
Britannica has a thorough breakdown of this information. However, they focus on the four main leagues of men’s professional sports (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL).
Regarding fandom, there are few things more celebratory than when your time wins it all. Though the post-party events and parades throughout the city are similar, the playoff championship experience is unique per sport. Here are the cities that have won the most championships in the four major sports. New York is the champion of champions with 54 total (this includes the championships won prior to the Super Bowl era). The 27 World Series titles alone would have New York at the top of the list. Next, Boston has had an incredible title run over the past 23 years. All four teams have won titles in that time. In fact, the Patriots have six since 2001 and the Red Sox have four since 2004. Chicago then rounds out the top three.
Here are the next seven cities that have won the most championships in pro sports.
- #4 Los Angeles
- #5 Montreal
- #6 Detroit
- #7 Philadelphia
- #8 Pittsburgh
- #9 Toronto
- #10 St. Louis
In the WNBA, the Seattle Storm, Minnesota Lynx, and Houston Comets have each won four championships.
So, what city is most likely to get the next parade? In the MLB, the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, and Tampa Bay Rays have the best record as we reach the last few weeks of the season. USA Today reports that the Chiefs and 49ers have the best odds to win the next Super Bowl. The Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty are the top two seeds in the WNBA playoffs.
