New Term: “Masterdating” Is Splurging on Elaborate Solo Dates
LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 24: The "Tinder" app logo is seen amongst other dating apps on a mobile phone screen on November 24, 2016 in London, England. Following a number of deaths linked to the use of anonymous online dating apps, the police have warned users to be aware of the risks involved, following the growth in the scale of violence and sexual assaults linked to their use. It used to seem kind of sad to see someone out at a fancy restaurant all alone. But now we’re embracing it, apparently . . .
The hot new term for taking YOURSELF out on elaborate dates is . . . “MASTERDATING.”
TikTok is all over the trend, but it doesn’t just include dates. It might also involve buying yourself nice gifts . . . or even sending yourself flowers.
One expert suggests sending flowers in the morning, with a card that says, “Can’t wait to see you tonight.” (???)
The point is to love YOU as a person, and realize you deserve to go have a good time, even when you’re not dating anyone.
You really have to embrace it though. If you just end up sitting at a nice restaurant feeling self-conscious, it can backfire.
