National Coffee Day is on September 29, and coffee lovers have a lot to look forward to in Michigan. The state is home to various coffee shops that pride themselves on roasting their own beans, creating unique coffee drinks, and offering environments that reflect the local vibe.

This trend isn't unique to Michigan. It's happening all across the United States. Tasting Table, a digital media company focusing on food and drink, set out to find the best coffee shop in each state by enlisting the help of locals, internet experts, and their own experiences. Their discovery? No matter where you are in America, there's a local coffee spot that can provide a more memorable and genuine experience than the big national chains, they said on their website.

Where is the best coffee shop in Michigan?

Tasting Table crowned Anthology Coffee in Detroit as Michigan's top coffee shop. They praised its blend of modern style with Detroit's industrial heritage, noting that the coffee served there is possibly the most delicious in the city. Additionally, they spotlighted the rich flavor of the bourbon-soaked coffee offered at this establishment.

The Detroit coffee shop has a 4.5 out of 5-star rating on TripAdvisor, and many reviews support its reputation as a great place. One person shared their positive experience, noting, "The people there actually care about the quality of coffee and where it comes from, they don't exploit their employees or customers, and really make a difference." Another customer appreciated that it differs from chain coffee shops, emphasizing "Anthology Coffee is NOT STARBUCKS, which is one of the things that makes it so great."

Anthology Coffee officially opened in May 2019, establishing its presence with a café and roastery in the Eastern Market area. The coffee shop has ample natural light thanks to three front-facing garage doors that open onto a spacious outdoor deck. On their menu, customers can enjoy Anthology's single-origin roasted coffees in pour-over and espresso options, along with various pastries and cakes. Anthology Coffee is located at 1948 Division St., Suite 102 in Detroit. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Saturday.
