Say It Isn’t True!! Sanders Bumpy Cake Is Going Away
Look away and don’t continue reading if you are a fan of Sanders Bumpy Cake. And if you are from Michigan, there is a good chance you are. It looks like the beloved caked could be going away by the end of the year.
Second Nature Brands CEO Vic Mehren released a letter about the Michigan favorite, and it’s not great news. Second Nature Brands has been a longtime partner with Minnie Marie Bakers who said they were closing the Awrey Bakery in Livonia this year. Unfortunately, due to production costs and lowering sales of sweat goods the bakery would be closing it’s doors. Bumpy cake may be closing with it.
Awrey bakery has been the long time producer of the Bumpy Cake said Mehren, so with the bakery closing Bumpy cake will not exist. Merhen said the company went on a long search for a new producer of the cake but haven’t come up with anything sustainable yet.
“After conversations with more than a dozen bakeries, we have not yet found a new partner who can maintain the high quality and classic taste that our consumers expect and deserve,” Mehren wrote.
What this means is that the Bumpy cake will soon run out of it’s stock and no longer be available for those Michiganders who love it. They say the cake is still available in some stores and online, but they expect the supply to be gone by the end of the year. Which means, until they find a new producer of the cake, the cake will be gone.
He continued to say that this was very unexpected and they didn’t see it coming. That said, it didn’t give them enough time to find someone who can take on the inventory needed to produce so many of the cakes.
