The RUTLES Announce The Last Song We Promise
Unlike the Beatles hype of a new last song with all four band members. The Rutles announce the release of The Last Song We Promise. The vaults were tapped out. But a long song was allegedly found in a car glove box at an impound yard. The remaining Rutles used AI technology to finish the last song they say will be the last of the last songs to be released on November 2, 2023
Who Are The Rutles?
The biggest band ever seen in this world or the next. From their 1963 album “Please Rut Me” to their final album, film, and lawsuit, “Let It Rot” in 1970, The Rutles changed popular culture, for better, for worse, and for their self-interests. This group is for anyone who remembers and loves The Rutles, and for anyone who’s never heard of them.
The Rutles Were A Band Parody Of The Beatles
The Rutles is the best parody of the Beatles I have ever heard. Weird Al Yankovic, a master of parodies, doesn’t come close. This fictional band, The Rutles was created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes from British comedy fans of Monty Python’s Flying Circus sketch comedy show. Eric and Neil wrote a Mockumentary; the title of the 1978 TV special was called, All You Need is Cash. The parody mocks the music and even the appearance of The Beatles.
It became super popular immediately. They later went on to spoof the Beatles Anthology series with their own called Archaeology. A second film, “The Rutles 2: Cant Buy Me Lunch” was made in 2002 and was released here in the States in 2003 on DVD. It wasn’t only popular in the United Kingdom. It was also a big deal domestically in the USA. They even made several appearances on Saturday Night Live in 1976 and 1977.
Now, what did The Fab Four actually think about The Rutles? George was into it. He was involved in the project since the beginning and found it funny and made with love. According to Wikipedia, Ringo liked the happier scenes but felt like the scenes that made fun of sadder times hit a little too close to home. John Lennon reportedly loved the film, and even gave them advice to change some things around to avoid being sued. McCartney originally had “no comment” on the matter, but grew to like it.
