Tony Finau: “I’m Not Leaving” Shows Loyalty To The PGA
Phew! PGA fans can breath a little sigh of relief this morning as yesterday PGA Tour player Tony Finau has pledged his loyalty to the PGA tour and announced that he will be staying. This announcement comes after Tony was linked to being the next PGA player to leave for the new Liv League. What made Tony stay? I have a few thoughts on it.
First, here is the message from Tony via his Instagram. “The 2023 season is in the books! It was a special and incredible season highlighted with a win at the Mexico Open. It was my 6th Win on the @pgatour. Another highlight was reaching the tour championship for the 7th year in a row! As this year comes to an end I’m grateful to play the game that I love and to have the opportunity to compete at the highest level. I’m excited for 2024 and looking forward to playing my 10th season on the PGA Tour! And stoked to be defending in both Mexico and Houston” He ended the message with the Hashtag “ImNotLeaving”
This message was a massive win for the PGA Tour and it’s fans, as the talks of Tony leaving really heated up after Jon Rahm left.

MY THOUGHTS:
Now, I have a few thoughts on Tony deciding to stick it out with the PGA Tour. My first is his background. I talk about this on the Ball Washer Pod, but I don’t think Tony cares about making more money. He grew up in Utah to a hard working family. He was never a country club kid like most of the players on tour, so he knows what it’s like to come from nothing and be loyal. Tony has made over 50 million dollars on the tour and is a beloved player. I can see why staying made sense for him. He unlike Rahm has never made this about the money.
I know, I always say that I am in the middle and just want to watch golf. But with that said, I do not like they way Rahm went to Liv or for the reasons he says. I think he lied to all of us and for that, my personal loyalty now sides with the PGA Tour. When it comes down to it, the PGA Tour is what made me fall in love with golf and is what has given me so many amazing memories over the years.
I really hope that Tony staying is a message to a lot of players to not give into the check book and be on the right side of history.
