Detroit Lions’ Ideal Playoff Scenarios (and What Will Likely Happen)
Karma is a b****, and here’s hoping the Detroit Lions get a rematch against the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs, because that two-point conversion-reporting situation was…well, let’s just move forward. Let’s forget about that whole Cowboys game. I know it’s difficult, but we have a team to support. The Detroit Lions are heading into a Week 18 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Then, it’s time for the main attraction: the playoffs. So, what are the Detroit Lions’ ideal playoff scenarios, and which will most likely happen?
NFL writer Arif Hasan joins me on “The Squad with Anne Erickson” this week to talk about all things NFL. We get into the upcoming Minnesota Vikings game, whether Kirk Cousins will remain with the Vikings next season, the Cowboys-Lions call and more. We also talk about who the Detroit Lions’ ideal opponents are in the playoffs.
For the wild card round, if the Lions finish out the season as the No. 3 seed in the NFC, we’ll be going up against the No. 6 seed. If that happens, there are two teams the Lions could play in the wild card round. Those teams are the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers. The Rams secure that spot if they beat the 49ers this Sunday. That might sound insurmountable. But, the 49ers will probably rest some guys this weekend, so it certainly could be a Rams victory. But, if the Rams lose and the Packers win their game against the Bears, the Lions would take on the Packers in the wild card round. If the Lions finish as the No. 2 seed in the NFC, we would play the No. 7 seed. That slot is still up in the air. The No. 7 seed could go to the Rams, Seahawks, Packers, Vikings, Buccaneers or Saints.
So, all that said, what will likely happen is that Detroit will take on Los Angeles or Green Bay in the wild card round. When it comes to Detroit’s ideal playoff scenarios and teams that’s we’re best equipped to take on, Hasan picks the Rams and Buccaneers for the wild card round and Cowboys for the divisional round. I, personally, am hoping for Green Bay in the wild card round and Cowboys for the divisional round. Listen to the full discussion below.
