Skating Brings Back A Ton Of Memories

Lot of my first memories were school skating parties. Held mostly on school nights at the International Roller Rink. It was amazing how well behaved we were back then at school functions. My own Mother joined in as she was a pro skater back in the day.
When JR. High and High School came around we lived their at the rink any secession that they had open. Friday and Saturday nights were peek nights to see your friends. Meet people from other High Schools around the area too. So much so that I applied for a job as a dj and got it.
International Roller Rink
The rink itselfĀ was oval shaped with metal railings and a few skating exits. A snack bar/smoking area and some pinball machines and I remember and air hockey table once. The DJ booth I worked in was in the far back corner lets say turn 3. It was a small shack hut but with nails that held bunches of 45 records. Two decent turntables and a old metal microphone.
The Night skating sessions played mostly rock and few pop records at the time. I had a ball working and what a staff of wonderful friends I got to work with. “Living After Midnight” by Judas Priest always made everyone skate very fast.
The Great Skate Years

The Great Skate Roseville
The 80s saw the change from International to The Great Skate. Redone, and redesigned with bright colors. They even moved the DJ booth to the front by the doors. It’s a 30,000 sq foot facility, smooth floor, and a state-of-the-art light show. Many new memories followed all the years till now. So glad we are going to all get together to share some memories. Even if you can’t skate anymore. I hope if you skated here over the years you will join us for a wonderful reunion get-together.
