Recycling Dates: Is it Wrong?
Is it wrong to take your current partner on the same date as you brought your ex? My best friend has been dating a new guy for a few months. Recently, he proposed the idea that they both get tattoos together. Not matching tattoos, but tattoos at the same place, on the same day, with each other as a fun date. The only problem? He’s done this before with his most recent ex and still has the tattoo to prove it!
WHAT HAPPENED:
When my best friend’s boyfriend proposed the idea of getting tattoos together, she was really excited. She took the time to do some research and found a tattoo shop near them. When she approached him with the tattoo shop she had in mind, he let her know that he couldn’t go to that tattoo shop. Why? Because he had already gone to that exact tattoo shop with his ex-girlfriend to go on the same date. When she found out that he took his ex on the exact same date, she was disheartened and wasn’t sure if it was special anymore.
MY THOUGHT PROCESS:
Yes, I do think it’s okay to recycle old date ideas. Especially if you think that your current partner would appreciate that date. With the right person, anything can be a date! From fancy dinners, to a stroll in the park, to getting tattoos. But the thing about tattoos: they’re permanent. To me, getting a tattoo with somebody would be a big deal. I have no tattoos, so this would be a monumental step in a relationship. But some people are covered in tattoos, and getting another can be a casual date. If my new partner were to bring this idea to me, but let me know that they did this with their ex, I wouldn’t be able to go through with it. I especially wouldn’t want to know which tattoo they have on their body that reminds them of their ex! It’s okay to recycle date ideas, and it’s even better when you’re able to add new elements to keep things fresh with your partner. But to have gotten tattoos in past relationships, you might just be a serial tattoo date repeater.
Speaking of exs, would you ever date someone with the same name as your ex? Check this out:
