I have to admit - I didn't know Zac Brown Band's touching Jimmy Buffett song existed until Saturday morning, drinking a cup of coffee and surfing on twitter/X when I came across this post. Tears welled up when I listened for the first time (yeah, I'm a parrot head and miss Jimmy Buffett terribly). Zac Brown Band's Touching Jimmy Buffett song will be part of my playlist forever.

Zac Brown Band's Touching Jimmy Buffett Song - How it happened

Mac McAnally was a long time member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band (I honestly don't remember going to a concert of Buffett's and NOT hearing him say Mac's name). This is the post about the song "Pirates and Parrots" and how Zac Brown came to write it.

I wanted to share some of the lyrics from "Pirates & Parrots" and why I love this song from Zac Brown...check out the Buffett song references he works in:

Another dollar on the wall (that's an homage to Captain Tony's in Key West)
Another poet with a pen
Another beach bum with a dog
Another stranger sailin' in
And the water's just as blue
No, you haven't missed a thing
But we're all here missin' you
All the pirates and the parrots sing[Chorus]
So adios, my friend
Anchor where that ocean ends
We'll pick up where you left off
Strummin' on a sailor song
We'll hold down this salty rock
Where it's always 5 o'clock (five o'clock somewhere)
When the sun goes down, we raise our drinks
All the pirates and the parrots sing
Oh
Oh
Oh[Verse 2]
Tell 'еm raise the bridge
Thе drifter's comin' through
There's a golden stretch of beach
That's waitin' there on you
Is the water just as blue?
We wanna hear about everything
But we're all here missin' you
So all the pirates and the parrots sing
Adios, my friend
Anchor where that ocean ends
We'll pick up where you left off
Strummin' on a sailor song
We'll hold down this salty rock
Where it's always 5 o'clock
When the sun goes down, we raise our drinks
All the pirates and the parrots sing
Oh
Oh
Oh[Bridge]
Gone too soon, but left a song
Passed a torch to carry on
As long as people sing along
You'll live on and on and on

Personal Note - But All Parrotheads Can Relate

Zac Brown Band's touching Jimmy Buffett song made me cry. Just like the day we heard Jimmy died. Like a lot of people, Buffett was a poet who lived a life we all dreamed about. Telling stories from Key West, chilling out with a margarita or getting in trouble with your friends. Buffett was also a part of my love life - one of the first things I bonded with my wife Kathi about (on our first date). Buffett will always be a part of my world - from sitting on the porch with friends having a drink (I always smile thinking about Robert, Dawn, John & Kathy King...drinks and porch time with friends while Buffett echos in the background).....to chilling out on Sunday mornings to smiling about shows at Pine Knob tailgating so hard we almost forgot there was a show.
Thank you for this song Zac Brown. Thank you for reminding us how much Jimmy Buffett will always mean to so many people.
