Polish are the second largest ethnic group in Michigan and are a part of the history of Detroit. According to the U.S. Census, Michigan has the third largest Polish population after number one, New York, and number two, Illinois. Most of Michigan’s Polish Americans are concentrated around Macomb County.
The Polish Festival Has Been Around As Long As I Can Remember
Growing up on the edge of the Warren / Sterling Heights borderline of 14 Mile and Hoover Road, the festival was always across the street from me. Big tents, music, dancing, and fun were always a part of it. I also remember a special guest artist—the Polish Prince, they called him. Artist Bobby Vinton would always play to huge crowds.
What Are The Plans For This Year's Festival?
This year's festival features live music and dancing. Authentic food & beverages and many different craft vendors. They are the biggest names in Polka music, along with the finest Polish Dance Ensembles in Michigan.
What Is The “Srodek’s Eating Challenge?”
Well, my friends, “Srodek’s Eating Challenge” is how many Pierogi one can eat. The record is the most Srodek’s Potato & Cheese Pierogi one can eat in ten minutes. Last year’s record of 69 pierogis in just 10 minutes came close to setting the record. Can you believe the record stands at 73 Pierogi's?
