Mysterious Airborne Car On I-75 – Did It Happen?

Did ANYONE see the airborne car on I-75 last week in Oakland County (Exit 81 is what it looks like for Lapeer Road). Here’s what’s weird about it: We have…

General Lee on Haybales

San Isidro, Argentina – October 08, 2022: orange 1969 Dodge Charger General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard over hay bales. Classic muscle car. Autoclasica 2022

Did ANYONE see the airborne car on I-75 last week in Oakland County (Exit 81 is what it looks like for Lapeer Road). Here’s what’s weird about it: We have a reddit thread and some folks posting the video - but there’s nothing in Google news about it (Ryan was checking our traffic service as well…nope). We do have this version of the SUV.

Airborne Car on I-75….So What Happened?

It all started with a reddit thread in the r/Unexpected forum showing an airborne SUV and claiming it was here in Michigan. After looking at the video we figured out it’s exit 81 off I-75 (Lapeer Road) - I drove that way home on Tuesday to check it out and you can see the bent out guard rail when the vehicle in question probably went through it (we also had a listener call with the same observation). So what’s the big deal?

There’s Nothing On The News

Wouldn’t you think in a world where we get instant feedback on everything that this story would definitely show up? Nothing. Just a story from the Daily Mail with no particulars in it other than what we shared. Weird, huh?

So we started thinking maybe it happened a couple of years ago, right? Nothing showed up. Then our buddy texted us and said a dispatcher (who’s a friend of the family) heard about it on Wednesday. They’ve got no reason to lie about it - so it did happen, right?

Airborne Car on I-75 - this could've made it.

No confirmation this Trans-Am was the flying car on I-75

Bottom Line on Airborne Car on I-75

Couple of things as we go right to the bottom line:

  1. We trust our friend who had family confirm that it did happen last Wednesday (and the folks in the SUV are okay).
  2. The Reddit thread doesn’t show up anywhere else (previous threads, etc). We've had plenty of stories about car flying into things (like houses in this one) - but we can't find this story ANYWHERE!
  3. I’d like to believe that occasionally we do have something that just happens and isn’t documented by 50 camera angles.

Top Five Movie Cars People Want To Drive

When you're watching a movie with a great car in it - doesn't your mind start talking to you saying "oh I'd love to drive that". I'm with you - so here's my list of Top Five Movie Cars I'd like to drive.

The Ford Mustang GT 390 from "Bullitt"

The greatest chase scene in movie history? I think so. But I'm also partial to Steve McQueen movies - knowing he's a legit driver who gets how to drive this car - and the sounds of shifting that 390 up and down the hills in San Francisco...pure beauty.

Pontiac Trans Am from "Smokey And The Bandit"

Who hasn't wanted to drive this bad boy while being chased by the authorities? The deep sound of that V8 when Burt Reynolds kicked it into gear (and you got to cruise around with Sally Fields as well).

Aston Martin DB5 - Goldfinger

Sean Connery in this car? As cool as it gets - who didn't want a car with a smoke screen?

Back To The Future DeLorean

"You built a time machine out of a Delorean?" - Iconic line from Back To The Future...and such a wonderful car (my neighbor had a Delorean when I was growing up - used to clean it with a steel wool brush)

Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

Okay - Ferris talked Cameron into taking the Ferrari...but c'mon, who wouldn't take this bad boy for a spin?
