Blackstone or Traeger? The Backyard Battle Is Real
Is there really a battle brewing (smoking?) between Blackstone or Traeger? Do you have to pick sides in this backyard battle? (apparently so!)
Blackstone or Traeger – Which is better?
(editors note: I have a Traeger). Okay, I’ve got a couple of questions when it comes to Blackstone or Traeger:
- Does the blackstone get used all time like a Trager? Or does it turn into a “weekend breakfast for twenty” and monthly stir fry for the family device? For the record, Blackstone is WILDLY popular – with over $600 million net revenue in 2022.
- What’s the maintenance like on an outdoor griddle like the Blackstone? Indoor is pretty simple with the electric griddle (unplug, empty grease trap and wash). Is it more involved when it comes to properly seasoning the blackstone?
- Does this replace your smoker? Or is it another item for the BBQ arsenal in the backyard? I still like using my smoker for pork butts, brisket, etc. – but honestly I can see the attraction of the Blackstone (nothing like a properly seared burger – which I have never been able to replicate on the Traeger).
Seasoning the Grill Guy
How big are these Blackstone grills? I’m watching this TikTok and the dude is going through A LOT of bread to find a hot spot:
So is there a learning curve with the Blackstone? As a smoker guy I’ll admit it’s pretty nerve wracking to spend all that money on a brisket and screw it up. I’d imagine figuring out cook times, temps, proper seasoning for the griddle is vital.
Are you considering a Blackstone, Big Jim?
Yes, yes I am. The Traeger guy in me wants to insult the Blackstone owners and defend the magic of smoking – but cooking on a flat top like the Blackstone looks like a lot of fun. Now if someone would take time to call my wife and explain why I’m doing this (and make sure she doesn’t lock me on the patio).
