Truck Driving Backwards on Cleveland Freeway

Is this a pro level move or just insanity? Watch this video (some NSFW language) of a truck driving backwards on Cleveland freeway.  The driver is looking so calm, right?…

The driver is looking so calm, right? And yes we know you drive a truck in reverse…Mater made it look easy in Cars, remember?

Deeper Dive on Truck Driving Backwards on Cleveland Freeway

The Ohio Department of Transportation posted this video from their traffic cams showing the truck entering the freeway, changing lanes and generally being pretty calm sailing down the road:

I’ll be honest - I’m watching these videos wondering if I could do this. First thought: yes. Second thought: not without a backup camera. Third thought: If Mater can do it, so can I.

Suddenly some of the stuff we see on the lodge here in Detroit doesn't look so bad, right?

Is this a TJ Hooker move?

There was this really cheesy (and cool) TV show with William Shatner called "TJ Hooker" and my buddies and I used to laugh every time he'd jump on the hood of a car - I swear it happened every episode and he'd hold onto the windshield wipers. I did that a couple of times in high school (Tim Goldston didn't appreciate me jumping on the hood of his Opal Manta) - doesn't this look something you'd see in that show? TJ Hooker holding on for dear life as the truck went in reverse down the freeway?

Now I want to know who was driving the truck. I've got so many questions:

  1. Where were you going that you needed to do it on the freeway?
  2. Was the transmission stuck in reverse?
  3. Have you ever done this before - and if so, was this the longest drive in reverse?
  4. Could you do this all the way to Detroit?
