Welcome to Trenton!
So you’re sitting around the house Friday morning, sipping on your coffee, listening to wcsx (try the app), and you hear this huge BOOM! What was the Trenton explosion all about? It’s all good - just DTE blowing up the boiler room at the Trenton Power Plant
How much dynamite for the Trenton explosion?
According to Renee Tomina, spokesperson for DTE, they used over 1,000 pounds of explosives (suspension charges and dynamite - none of the provided by a coyote with a box marked ACME). Here’s some amazing drone video shot by our friend Diana Casetti of the explosion:
Did everything go according to plan?
"I think it went fantastic, just as we had planned," said Renee from DTE "Once the explosives were lit, the building collapsed upon itself and we were able to safely and successfully bring the boiler house down. As you saw, the smoke and dust dissipated over the water exactly as we expected."
Speaking of blowing things up, who remembers the Hudson’s demolition back in 1988?
And since we’re talking about buildings getting blown up (like the Trenton explosion) - I wrote down a couple of famous scenes from movies:
Die Hard (1988) - This classic Christmas movie starring Bruce Willis as John McClane features the explosive destruction of parts of Nakatomi Plaza (come on, this was awesome…right?)
The Dark Knight (2008) - Remember when Heath Ledger’s Joker blew up the hospital? Such a chaotic scene.
Inception (2010) - Remember the scene where the buildings were blowing up in mind twisting way? (Actually the entire movie was mind twisting, wasn’t it?)
Hooper (1978) - come on, did you really think I was going to create a list of movies with big explosions in it and NOT include Hooper? Watch the final scene of the movie…i’m pretty sure there are still explosions going off from it. The best with Burt Reynolds and Jan Michael Vincent.
