The Most Detroit Lions Obit Ever…and it’s in Pennsylvania
The most Detroit Lions Obit of all time – and it comes from Pennsylvania. Obviously a man who loved the Lions and his son shared the love in his dad’s obit
The Detroit Lions Obit
Here’s the obit as posted in Carlisle, Pennsylvania:
William Gardner Obituary
Sheesh. My father didn’t want an obituary, funeral, or memorial. However, it has been brought to my attention that he meant something to a lot of you. So if I’m going to disobey his wishes, we’re going to do this right. If you loved my father or he had any impact on your life at all, and you want to honor his memory, sit in front of your TV at noon every Thanksgiving and watch the Lions game just like he would have done. DETROIT VS. EVERYBODY.

Detroit Vs Everybody
Never met this William Gardner. He was young (42 years old according to the header on the obit). But anyone who made the Lions thanksgiving game part of their lives is one of us….no matter where they live. I hope we can all take a moment and sign the comments section so this young man knows he’s got a group in Detroit sending their love and honolulu blue respect for his dad.
My Dad and Football
My dad (also Jim) was born in Chicago and raised a Bears fan. He was a great football player in High School out in California (offensive lineman), he was sent an invite to visit Notre Dame (via train at the time) for a campus visit – pretty sure the head coach was Frank Leahy (one of the four horsemen). But for whatever reason, Dad decided to join the Army and go into the Korean War as a Ranger. He hurt his knee playing football for a base team after the war (completely shattered his kneecap) and never went to college.
But there were Sundays with him during the season. Waking up to the sound of the little electric rotisserie going, dad with his iced tea and Sunday paper watching the pre-game shows.
So to the son of William Gardner – writer of the Detroit Lions Obit. We’re with you buddy and totally get it. And you’re damn right I’ll be thinking of your pop on Thanksgiving.
