Unboxing Jimmy Buffett Jurassic World Collectible
Did you know there’s a Jimmy Buffett Jurassic World figurine? Did you know Jimmy Buffett is IN Jurassic World? Here’s how it happened – and we’ll check out the collectible from the John Hammond Collection.
Jimmy Buffett Jurassic World connection
The producers of Jurassic World wanted to make the downtown Isla Nublar more like a real tourist destination, complete with actual stores like Lululemon, Starbucks and for a restaurant they wanted Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville (the perfect place to chill out after watching dinosaurs all day, right?)
So Jimmy said “of course!” and they built a REAL Margaritaville on the set, complete with a working bar and terrace to check out main street (before the dinosaurs tear it up obviously). But Buffett was so excited about the idea that his restaurant would be in the movie, he showed up to filming and started making margaritas from behind the bar.
So when it came time to film the scene where the flying dinosaurs attacked people on main street, they wanted a real reaction and Jimmy grabbing his two drinks before getting out of the way is classic parrothead.
Unboxing the Jimmy Buffett Jurassic World collectible
When this was announced as a collectible by Mattel Creations, everyone knew that parrotheads (we’re a mighty group) would snap these up quicker than dinosaurs snapping up people off main street. What’s it like?
First off, it comes in this amazing box (you gotta save it) – we were conflicted about taking it out of the box..but what’s the point of having something cool if no one can see it? So out came Jimmy Buffett in all his glory.
After quickly putting the dinosaurs onto their plastic holders, and setting down the shaker of salt by his feet (yes, it’s required in “margaritaville” law). We noticed that when you turn the base you’ll get a light up margarita (that’s what he’s standing on top of), and various sounds from the movie – including the chase scene on main street from the film.
Margarita Man
Did you know when the movie first came out, a lot of people didn’t know who that was running away with the margaritas? We had to rewind it a couple of times to confirm it’s Buffett – and now it’s my favorite scene in the movie. Bubbles up Parrotheads. This is a keeper for any collection.
