When I first read the headline “$200,000 lottery email in Michigan woman’s spam folder” I started waiting for THIS to be a scam of some sort. Can’t be real, right?…

When I first read the headline “$200,000 lottery email in Michigan woman’s spam folder” I started waiting for THIS to be a scam of some sort. Can’t be real, right? We’ve found stories of folks losing (and finding) lottery tickets, or maybe being in a group and not knowing it. But the spam folder is a new one.

$200,000 lottery email - it went where?

Here’s what happened:  A 54-year-old woman here in Michigan was going through her spam folder earlier this month, and found a strange email saying she'd won a lottery prize of $207,199.  This seems like an obvious trap . . . but somehow it wasn't? (okay, I know this turned out well…but i’m getting anxious even writing it down - like they’re going to scam me for posting this…but trust me, this is real. Wait, that’s something a scammer would say)

So was it a scam? NOPE!

Turns out, the woman had been earning "BIG CA$H Second Chance" drawing entries by playing certain online lottery games . . . and the prize WAS legit. A real $200,000 lottery email in her spam folder.

She said, "I didn't know that [I] was earning entries . . . so I was confused when I came across an email from the Michigan Lottery in my spam folder saying I'd won.  After looking into it, I figured out [it] was real.  This win is so exciting and couldn't have come at a better time!"  (Even this quote seems like a scam.)

Are you going to go through your spam folder now? I’ve already gone through mine and reached out to multiple Nigerian princes who not only have LOTS of money for me, but we can even become the captain of a boat!
