The 7th Sell-Out of The Screamin Scramble Thanks For Another Great Year

The 2024 Screamin Scott Scramble: mother nature was a blessing after last year's rain that shut down half the golf course.

Getting Ready for a day of golf and lots of fun. Never know what will happen during a Screamin Scramble!

Fernhill Golf Club sold out for the 7th time in a row. The fantastic grounds crew really brought the course around after weeks of heavy rain. The outing was in danger of only being able to use half the course. The back 9 holes were underwater and drained just in time for all the fun.

Improvise and Overcome! The whole place was ready for the scramble and raising money for the Rainbow Connection.

Not The Average Golf Outing Not Even Close

Golfers were treated to the unusual golf outing with tricks at every dogwood right turn. From the Detroit Ghost Busters, Inflatable Godzilla, shotgun-blast start, smoke bombs, games, Jell-O shots, beverage samples, games, raffles, and more all afternoon.

This year’s musical guests performed on the course. We started with a tremendous version of our National Anthem sung by Kelley Johncox. Entertainment on the course was Nathan Grant.

My great surprise this year was adding Big Jim's House resident golf pro, Ryan Logan to my team this year. Ryan as you know has his own tremendous golf Ball Washer Podcast find it on wcsx.com .

Ryan was an incredible addition to my team along with ringers, "Yelling John" A West, Cisco Loco Joe Evangelista, Screamin Pops, and myself all followed Ryan Logan and even changed the name of the team to, "Logan's Heroes."

The team all had many ESPN highlights throughout the day. Ryan's and Yelling John's crushing drives and Loco and myself brought our sensational 30-foot putting skills. The team finished with a respectable score at the end.

The 5 Best Public Golf Courses in Livingston County

As the Host of "The Ball Washer Podcast" I believe it's part of my job to play golf courses and share my thoughts and suggestions. As a resident of Michigan, I am spoiled with some great golf courses around the entire state. For this list, I want to focus on the top public golf courses in Livingston County.

MY RANKING METHOD:

I have a list of things I considered when ranking the top 5 public golf courses in Livingston County. Right up front, the first thing I look at is spacing on Tee Times. I have always had the thought that tee times should be no closer than 10 minutes apart.

I think that gives each group a good amount of time to get off the first tee and get to the green before the next group is ready to tee off. Second, course conditions and overall appeal. Another thing I take into account is how well the cups are cut, as a guy who use to cut cups on a golf course I took a lot of pride in cutting great, even cups. Now, let's get to the list.

5 BEST PUBLIC GOLF COURSES IN LIVINGSTON COUNTY

Let's get into it, the 5 best public golf courses in Livingston County! Remember, this all off of my own experiences at these courses. Here is another list you can come back to to compare!

The Majestic at Lake Walden

Majestic at Lake Walden is by far my favorite course in Livingston County, located at  9600 Crouse Road, Hartland Township, Majestic is home to 27 holes and trust me when I say, you will argue with your friends on which 9 holes is the best out there. From a layout unlike any other, where you may have to take the boat to number 10, Majestic is another "Up North" style course hidden in the shadows of busy US-23. It's a challenging course with tight fairways and long par 3's but makes for the perfect match play with your buddies. Majestic is on the steeper side of the price tag with weekends costing you 99 dollars. Call now to book 810.632.5235

Coyote Preserve Golf Club

Coyote Preserve Golf Club is another Livingston county course that makes you feel like you are Up North. Located at 9218 Preserve Dr., Tyrone Township, the Preserve starts you off with a nice long drive back into the course, which leads you to a welcoming club house. Again, this is a course that will give you some room off the tee but you better dial in the second shot to hit the tough greens. This is also a course that will reward you for well hit shots, but also punish you for putting the ball in the wrong spot. Cheaper than Moose Ridge, you can play Coyote Preserve for 89 dollars on the weekend. Give them a call now to book (810) 714-3206   ((810) 714-3206810) 714-3206 (810) 714-3206(810) 714-3206

Hunters Ridge Golf Course

Hunters Ridge is located at  8101 Byron Road, Howell. Tucked back in the woods, this course is a hidden gem. This is a course that will again, reward you for well hit shots, but hurt you if you hit it in the wrong spots. A lot of the holes leave you with shots over hazards which makes for in interesting and stress filled round. One of the things that separates Hunters Ridge from other Livingston County courses is their traditional Scottish-heather rough. Hit it in there and you'll be looking for your ball half of the round! The price for Hunters is on the lower end of golf these days at 69 dollars to play the weekend. Call now to book (517) 545-4653

Moose Ridge Golf Course

Moose Ridge is located at 11801 Doane Road, Green Oak Township and is home to some of the best sights and sounds in all of Michigan golf. I love this course because it provides a different type of golf than most courses in the area. If you are a fan of placement golf and hitting to blind greens, this is the course for you. It also has a great range and club house, including a a nicely placed halfway house that provides drinks and food at the turn. Again, this is a challenging course but worth the frustration. One downfall is it's expensive, but what golf course in Michigan isn't right now. You can play Moose Ridge for 92 dollars on the weekend. Give them a call now to book 248-446-9030.

Timber Trace Golf Club

I am a sucker for courses that make you feel like you are Up North, and Timber Trace is no stranger to that. Located at One Champions Circle, Putnam Township, Timber Trace will challenge you off the tee with their tree lined fairways. For a few years leading up to covid the course was on a slight downfall, but ever since new management took over Timber Trace has made a comeback and seems to have restored the love from people who play. I will be transparent and say, I have not played this course in 2024 but I am sure they continue to revive it. This is also the cheapest course on the list with the weekend running you 65 dollars to play. Give them a call to book 734-878- 5353
