Alright, I am not joking around here, cassette tapes are back in a huge way with a certain generation. There is only one problem, no one knows how to use them.

CASSETTE TAPES ARE BACK!

Now, before I get to deep into this let me tell you, I was a kid when the use of cassette tapes began to fall to the use of CD's but I still remember using a tape when I was a little kid. I remember having a cassette player at my Papa's house, I loved it because I could record myself right to it. That was when I feel in love with radio, I use to do my own morning show and record it to cassette.

Now, before you ripping on Gen Z for not knowing their way around a cassette tape just remember, I am sure when you were growing up there were things from your parents era that you didn't understand or know how to use. With that said, it is still funny as hell to see some of these kids try to use a tape.

WHY ARE THEY BACK?

Some think cassette tapes are back for a couple of different reasons. First, they are cool again, like everything from the 80's and 90's they have become cool amongst younger people. Another reason, they are much cheaper than buying an album. Now, tapes only run you about 10 bucks depending on the artist.

Sales of tapes are up big time as well, 430,000 cassette tapes were sold last year. That is 5 times more than the entire last decade combined. So yes, I would say these are back and are becoming the newest "old school" trend to make a comeback.

So to finish up, if you notice your kid or grandkids using cassette tapes, embrace it and use it as a way to remember your childhood! And them, have them listen to Big Jim's House!

cassette tapes are back!
Hey It’s Ryan, let me start off by saying…YES, I was born and raised in Wixom, Michigan although a lot of listeners like to joke that I am from Arizona. WCSX has always been my radio home, I have been at the station since I was a 23-year-old intern, co-host of Big Jim’s House, married with kids. Family and radio are what I love, but don’t get me started on golf! Like some, I have become obsessed with golf and you can hear all about that on “The Ball Washer Pod” right here on WCSX. One of my other passions is helping out the Vets. Since coming to WCSX I have been apart of raising hundreds of thousands for local vet groups. Other than that, I am a goofy guy, loving life, my family and talking to you on the radio. Ryan writes about golf, family and what happens on “Big Jim’s House.”
