After a few days of teasing a special announcement, Foreigner has revealed that they are releasing yet another hits collection, but this one contains a previously unreleased song (that's right - NEW music from Foreigner) - the song is titled "Turning Back the Time," that dates back to 1996 during original singer Lou Gramm's second stint in the band.

Band founder and guitarist Mick Jones says, “There are a number of songs that Lou and I wrote together that have never seen the light of day. One of them, 'Turning Back the Time,' was co-written with Marti Frederiksen. Marti and I recently revisited and reworked the song.  Because of the time that had passed, we were able to go back to it with a fresh perspective. The sentiment of the song spoke to us now more than ever and with the upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, we thought it an ideal time to let the world hear it.”

Out the gate, Foreigner just wasn’t messing around. With classics like “Feels Like the First Time” and “Cold as Ice,” it helped set the stage for a stellar four-album run that included 1978’s ‘Double Vision’,1979’s ‘Head Games’ and 1981’s ‘4.’ Frankly, the greatness of those albums and the hits they contained truly don’t get talked about enough.

Jones and Frederiksen co-produced the song, and both added guitars. Jones also added keyboards with Frederiksen and his son Evan playing bass and drums respectively. Gramm’s vocals are from the original demo.

The track (listen for some references to the Beatles and Foreigner's earlier music in the lyrics) tops and provides the title to a new 18-song collection that will be released on vinyl and CD on October 4th.

Jones says, “Foreigner’s membership in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a priceless highlight of my career. I hope that this collection of the songs that brought us here, along with some later recordings that light our way forward, will mean as much to all who listen to them as they do to me."

Foreigner will be inducted into the Rock Hall alongside Peter FramptonOzzy OsbourneDave Matthews BandCher, the late Jimmy Buffett and John Mayall, and others on October 19th at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland.
