Beetlejuice Sequel – 2 Main Characters That Are Missing
Will you head to the theater to catch Beetlejuice sequel? I can’t wait for September 6th to hit. I couldn’t possibly tell you how many times I have watched the original movie, Beetlejuice. The movie came out in 1988, Blockbuster was a go-to spot, and the almighty VHS tapes let us rewatch a movie or show ad nauseam. Beetlejuice was clever, hilarious, and chuck full of memorable lines and scenes. Waiting reminds me of a scene:
Where Are The Maitlands in the Beetlejuice Sequel?
Adam and Barbara Maitland (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) were main characters (along with Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder) in the original, but they will not be a part of the Beetlejuice sequel. Tim Burton recently spoke with People and explained their absence. “I think the thing was for me I didn’t want to just tick any boxes. So even though they were such an amazing integral part of the first one, I was focusing on something else.”
Burton said the movie explains the loophole that allowed the Maitlands to leave the house. He also said he waited a long time to tell this new story. Now Winona Ryder is the mom and her daughter, Astrid (the fabulous Jenna Ortega) treats her pretty much the same way Lydia (Ryder) treated her stepmother, Delia (Catherine O’Hara). Here’s a clip of the Maitlands meeting their caseworker, Juno.
Did You Notice The Maitlands Missing?
I feel like a jerk saying this, but I really didn’t notice until recently. With the return of Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder… plus Catherine O’Hara… AND the addition of Jenna Ortega, I didn’t look much further.
