Labor Day Michigan Road Trip – Bob Seger’s Favorite Chicken
A couple of years ago Bob Seger was doing an interview with MLive and was asked “If you could never visit Michigan again, what food or restaurant would you miss the most?”
Bob’s response: The Dam Site Inn in Pellston. They have fabulous chicken dinners. We have a cabin about 25 miles from there. There’s a little airport where we land, and we try to time the landing so it’s dinner time.
So who’s up for a labor day weekend road trip to Pellston for some of Bob Seger’s favorite fried chicken?
Bob Seger’s Favorite Chicken – And Other Michigan Chicken Spots
So here’s the info about the Dam Site inn in Pellston – it’s about 260 miles from Detroit (4 hours if you don’t stop too much). But what about other places? Here’s a couple of suggestions:
The Bavarian Inn (Frankenmuth, MI) – A little over an hour and a half from Detroit, Frankenmuth is known as “Little Bavaria,” and this restaurant has some of the best fried chicken around, served family-style. It’s a definite must visit – just prepare to take a nap in the parking lot (it’s a lot of carbs…but awesome)
Alabama Style Chicken & Fish (Grand Rapids, MI) – If you’re in the western part of the state, this spot in Grand Rapids is known for its Southern-style fried chicken (buddy recommended this to me)
Joe’s Gizzard City (Potterville, MI) – About 15 minutes southwest of Lansing, this quirky spot serves up deep-fried chicken gizzards and a lot more. It’s a unique experience for the adventurous foodie. Okay, wasn’t this on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives? I’m not sure about eating gizzard’s…but what the hell, road trip anyone?
