JB Smoove Talks Curb, Comedic Influences and His Love For Detroit
Most of us discovered JB Smoove from his role as Leon on Curb Your Enthusiasm – but his career as a stand up comedian, writer on SNL and so much more led him to that audition in Los Angeles and the creation of a character that owned every scene (tough to do with Larry David).
JB Smoove – Our Conversation
First off – time with JB goes really quick (I could spend an hour talking with him)…he’s in town at Motor City Casino Sunday night (tickets available here) and if you’ve never seen his stand up, imagine a cross between Bernie Mac and Norm Macdonald – a great storyteller who makes a meal out of a story…he’s a true genius when it comes to stand up. And we started off talking about how he got into it – plus his comedic inspirations and how he got the role on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Great Comedians
Bottom line with JB Smoove, watch him grow even more as an artist. I love doing interviews with people like him, so passionate about their craft and constantly working to get better at it. During the conversation he alluded to more comedy/drama projects – I’m going out on a limb and saying he’ll have his own limited run series on Netflix or Max relatively shortly.
Part of me hopes it ISN’T a spin-off with the Leon character from Curb. He’s got so much to offer as an actor and comedian, I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes in the next 5 years…and I’m really looking forward to our next chat.
