closeup frying pork bologna in black pan with small amount of cooking oil
Thinking of a Fried Bologna Sandwich brings back many memories of my childhood. My mom makes them quickly and easily with an added mustard and mayo combo. Fancy ones would have lettuce and a slice of fresh tomato.
Where Did The Idea Of A Fried Bologna Sandwich Come From?
The bologna sandwich, also known as a baloney sandwich, is common in the U.S. and Canada. It is traditionally made from sliced bologna sausage between slices of white bread, along with various condiments, such as mayonnaise and mustard.
Who invented the sandwich? I always give credit to my Mom. The inventor of the fried bologna sandwich has never come forward, but it’s a specialty in the South, Midwest, and East areas.
What Is In Bologna?
What is bologna made of?
Much like hot dogs, bologna is commonly made of beef, pork, turkey, or chicken, which is finely ground and stuffed into a casing for cooking and often later removed. The bologna is cooked or smoked and then either packaged whole or sliced.
My Favorite Spots To Get A Fried Bologna Sandwich
The Eastside Tavern – Mt Clemens -Address126 Avery St Mount Clemens, MI 48043
The Eastside Tavern!!! Always a great time in Macomb County’s oldest tavern!!! Legendary fried bologna sandwiches!!! Don’t forget to watch your head going downstairs.
Mercury Burger Bar -2163 Michigan Ave Detroit, MI 48216
The bread is fresh, and the added pickles make this sandwich just pop with flavor. The best part is that so many menu items here are so good. This is my favorite Corktown place to go!
Green Dot Stables 2200 W. Lafayette Blvd., Detroit; 313-962-5588; greendotstables.com
I have never had a Bologna Slider till now. Wow!
Two nearly hockey-puck-sized charred bologna hockey puck size and grilled onions. Green Dot uses Dearborn-brand bologna and fresh bread. I love the Onions.
Screamin Scott Bologna Chef
Okay, so mine is pretty basic, but it includes extra sharp cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, Duke’s mayo, and RUSH brand mustard on onion roll bread. It’s great to enjoy on a Sunday while watching football on a cool, crisp Fall afternoon in Michigan. Mom, a big thank you for your efforts and the many Bologna sandwiches you made for me.
7 Foods You Should be Cooking in the Air Fryer
Food is a magical thing. It is an amazing part of world culture. In certain cultures, food plays a super important role in bringing family, friends, and even strangers together in harmony. At its core, a group of people sharing a meal together is wholesome and something that unites us. These days, it seems like in American culture, everything is so fast-paced, and there is apparently no time for anything anymore. I’ve found that this comes up on the subject of family dinners.
Too Fast for Family Dinner
Most American parents agree that sitting at the table each night for dinner is extremely important. Unfortunately, less than half of American households sit down each night at the dinner table with the entire family. Food is such an important part of this! Food is not why American households don’t share meals the same way they used to, but the world of food and cooking is constantly evolving.
Food Made Simple
With everyone constantly feeling like they don’t have enough time to make a full-course meal each night for their family, inventors and entrepreneurs have come up with some nifty inventions to streamline cooking and make everything quicker, easier, and just as tasty! So many things have come out in the name of cooking.
Whether you’re using an ingenious instant pot for cooking a hearty pot of soup, sous vide for steak, a personal fruit and veggie blender for making a smoothie of any combination, or a toaster oven for the obvious breaded foods, these kitchen tools make everything simpler and aim to bring the family together again.
My favorite kitchen tool is the magical air fryer. The air fryer is perfect for cooking nearly anything. If you want to know what foods are better in the air fryer than anywhere else, look no further than this list below. Also, check out some local Michigan dining spots!
Chicken Wings
I cook chicken wings at LEAST once per week in the air fryer. An absolute must-try! Check out the video for tips on crafting the ultimate chicken wing recipe for the air fryer.
Salmon
Many would assume that Salmon is not a great food to stick in the air fryer. I am here to say you couldn’t be more wrong. Salmon doesn’t easily dry out in the air fryer and keeps in all that savory flavor. Watch the video for a step-by-step breakdown of how to air fry your Salmon today.
Potatoes
Potatoes may be the best thing possible to put in the air fryer. Please watch the cooking tutorial above on how to make the most perfectly tasting potatoes!
French Fries
If potatoes are amazing in the air fryer, it’s not a ridiculous leap to believe that French Fries would also be a prime candidate for the air fryer. I would argue that French Fries in the Air Fryer are better than anywhere else. The reason I say that is because you get all the amazing flavor but without all the excess grease.
Tater Tots
Like potatoes and French Fries, Tater Tots are another gem of food to stick in the air fryer. Watch the video above for tips on how you can make your very own air fried tater tots today.
Pork Chops
Most would assume that Pork Chops are best made on the grill or even the stovetop. While both of those cooking methods are great for Pork Chops, there is another option. Air-fried pork Chops are severely underrated or possibly unknown to some. Give it a try next time.
Cheeseburgers
As an avid fan of all things burgers, I take them very seriously. The grill is widely regarded as the ultimate place to cook burgers and dogs. But the air fryer is not to be overlooked. Cooking burgers in the air fryer allows for more monitoring and wiggle room if you want to cook them just right.
