Top 5 Movie Defensive Football Players – Perfect For The Detroit Lions
With the Detroit Lions making some nice moves at the trade deadline, we figured they could use even MORE help on the defensive side of the ball in the form of fictional characters from movies. Here’s our top five (in no particular order…remember we’re focused on defense here)
Top 5 Movie Defensive Football Players
Okay Detroit Lions, here’s a couple to consider:
Bobby Boucher – The Waterboy
All that pent up frustration being unleashed on the field would make him a matchup nightmare for anyone in football. Maybe we get him to start calling Mahomes “Captain Insano” and go after him in the Super Bowl (no body slams though).
Charles Jefferson – Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Forest Whitaker plays Charles Jefferson, a high school defensive end who becomes a force of nature on the field after his car is wrecked by Spicoli. The greatest one man wrecking crew in football history – he’d raise hell all over the NFC north.
Switowski – The Longest Yard (2005)
Played by Bob Sapp, Switowski is a massive and lovable defensive lineman who’s a wrecking ball on the field, making him a memorable and intimidating figure on the Mean Machine team. (author note: I’m a huge fan of Bob Sapp, so I worked him in over Richard Kiel from the original).
Latimer – The Program
Andrew Bryniarski’s character, Latimer, is a juiced-up linebacker with an intense commitment to his game and, unfortunately, his supplements. His all-out style on the field makes him a powerful force, embodying the pressures of college football. He’d be good for one season right? Or creating too much chaos on the field.
Danny Bateman – The Replacements
Jon Favreau’s Danny Bateman is an ex-Marine turned linebacker, known for his overly aggressive style and intense dedication. His unfiltered energy brings both humor and toughness to the team, making him a stud on the field…is there a better ballhawk than Danny?
My 5 – What’s Yours?
Obviously there are more great defensive football players from movies to add to the list – but this is my starting point for our friends in Allen Park to consider. Let’s go Detroit Lions! (feel free to make suggestions via email: [email protected])
Go Lions.
