This is pretty brilliant. I would have used this tactic for getting kids to eat veggies with both of my kids if I had known about it. According to sciencedirect.com, a group of scientists concocted two stories. Both stories were similar fairytale-type stories where the main characters were kids that save the day. In one story, they save the day by eating magical fruits and veggies. In the other story no fruits and veggies are mentioned.

Getting Kids to Eat Veggies Through Story

80 kindergarteners were divided into two groups half was read the story with veggies and half was read the one without. The kids were read the story just one time. Over a two week period, the kids were given a choice of snacks... some unhealthy (cookies and cake) and some healthy (fruits and veggies). The snacks were side by side and the kids were given a choice of one snack

The kids who heard the story about magical veggies ate healthier food. According to the NY Post, up to 80% of the children made healthier snack choices and the kids kept making healthier choices in the weeks after. The kids who did not hear the story with magical fruits and veggies saw no change in their food choices.

My first thought as a parent is, "Where do I find books that are about magical veggies and fruits?

Book Resources for Getting Kids to Eat Veggies and Fruits

Readbrightly.com has a list of books about vegetables and fruits but they're not necessarily magical.

Fruit Bowl is a book about who belongs in a fruit bowl and the tomato doesn't have it easy.

The Super Foods book looks like fruits and veggies are superheroes, but there was no synopsis, so I don't know for sure.

The Magical Fruits and Vegetables is a book about a little girl who finds magical fruits and vegetables and brings them home. Once she starts eating the foods, she notices that she has more energy and even does better in school.

I also found a video that made me nuts, so I can only assume that children will love it. Steve has more than 5 million views, so clearly someone is digging it, yeah.

Getting kids to eat veggies has always been an uphill battle, at least with my kids. Early education goes a long way. If you're trying to get kids in your life to eat healthier, I hope this info helped!
