A new chapter starts in downtown Detroit as GM moves to the Hudson's site at 1208 Woodward Avenue. The first building is ready while Bedrock plans its grand opening next week. This marks the start of a massive $1.4 billion project that will change the city's core.

October 10 brings an exclusive party to mark the 12-story building's completion. Inside, visitors will find shops at street level, a grand three-story event space named The Department at Hudson's, and floors where GM staff will soon work.

Shops have started welcoming customers. Alo and Tecovas now fill spots on the main floor. The event space has already buzzed with car shows and industry gatherings since summer.

Next to this site rises an ambitious 49-story tower. When finished, it will stand as Michigan's second-tallest structure. The tower will mix luxury with living space - an Edition Hotel plus 96 homes should open their doors by 2027.

"An unforgettable evening that reimagines Detroit's golden era while showcasing its bold future," states the event website, according to Detroit Free Press.

The opening bash promises music from live jazz bands and DJs, plus an upscale dinner with drinks served tableside. A special "Bowtie Alley" installation will take guests through time - from Detroit's past to what lies ahead. Visitors can also peek at the event hall and fifth floor offices.

Guests must dress to impress. Men might pick dark burgundy or green suits, while women can shine in statement gowns or silk suits.

At night, the tower's lights now paint the city sky in new colors. Yet inside, workers still push to finish. The mix of hotel rooms and homes won't welcome guests until 2027.
