Detroit Bars and Restaurants Offer Fire Pits, Heated Patios for Winter Dining

Cold weather won’t stop outdoor dining now. These additions mean residents and visitors can still gather outside when temperatures drop.

Bars and eateries throughout Detroit have installed fire pits and heated patios. Cold weather won't stop outdoor dining now. These additions mean residents and visitors can still gather outside when temperatures drop.

Lumen sits where Grand River Avenue meets Cass Avenue in the park. This spot has two fire pits ringed by chairs. Guests can watch Grand River Avenue while sipping drinks.

Father Forgive Me runs on Jefferson Avenue east of downtown. It's a wine and cocktail bar set on the grounds of the 1900s church The Shepherd. An outdoor bar cart sits near seating that circles a fire pit.

The Congregation mixes a coffee shop with a bar and event space inside a renovated church. The three-story building has patio fire pits, and the location has thrown community bonfires.

The Yard at Corktown gives guests indoor and outdoor space. Two fire pits burn on a turf lawn. Detroit Axe runs inside, and $25 gets you an axe-throwing session. Detroit-style pizza and hot honey chicken sandwiches appear on the menu.

Imperial in Ferndale is 20 minutes from the city center, just off Woodward Avenue. Wooden picnic tables line up under electric outdoor heaters at this bar and eatery. Tacos and Sonoran hot dogs are served here.

The Old Miami keeps a fire pit burning on its backyard patio. This dive bar throws comedy shows, yoga sessions, dance nights, and watch parties.

Detroit Shipping Co. in Midtown packs shops, eateries, art galleries, and a beer garden into refurbished shipping containers. The outdoor area has a gas fire pit with chairs.

Stadt Garten works as a wine and beer garden. A German-inspired menu feeds guests, and movie nights happen here.

Spotlite has two partially enclosed seating areas tucked in an alley with electric heaters. The venue also has a dance floor.

El Club in Southwest Detroit built an outdoor patio around a fire pit. This concert venue keeps the fire burning through cold months.
